Half a case of Hendry Rośe Wine 2017 arrived a few weeks ago. After letting the wine sit, we have finally decided to open a bottle up!
We are not part of any Hendry Wine Clubs but do receive their newsletter. This wine was on special and I just couldn’t pass it up with warmer weather on the way. As most of you know, we are big red wine drinkers but love white and rośe wines during the summer months.
The Hendry Rośe at first glance is almost a salmon color. The Hendry tasting notes call the color “distinctive deep pink.” But no matter what you call it the color is inviting and may just make your mouth water slightly.
The wine is a blend which changes with each vintage but is usually Zinfandel-based. The 2017 blend is 41% Zinfandel, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Pinot Noir, 13% Primitivo, 7% Malbec and 5% Merlot.
The tasting notes say the wine has “bright red berry fruit with floral notes” with “flavors that include tangy strawberry, raspberry, nectarine, dried and fresh apricot.” Personally, I also tasted some melon flavors.
Always drink this wine chilled. We paired this wine with a grilled chicken dish. But it would also pair nicely with fish, shrimp, or any type of warm or cold vegetable dish.
Hendry Ranch produced 730 cases of this wine. The wine is available for sale on the Hendry website. At a reduced price and summer on the way, I doubt it will be available for very long.
Hendry Ranch Vineyard
The Hendry Ranch Vineyard has been growing grapes on the same family farm since 1939. Hendry Ranch is composed of 203 acres. Situated in the low, rolling hills just northwest of Napa, at the foot of Mt. Veeder, and includes 114 acres under vine.
My dh and I visited the Hendry Ranch Vineyard a few years ago. We were lucky enough to participate in a Seminar Tour with the owner George Hendry. This three hour tour included an extensive tour of the ranch and an intense guided tasting of seven Hendry current release wines.
This tour was one of the most educational tours we have ever taken. Mr. Hendry’s knowledge of wine is unbelievable. The guided tasting present the wines in a way that gave us insights into our pallets that we never realized.
If you have a chance to visit the Hendry Ranch Vineyard, I highly recommend this tour and the Hendry Rośe Wine 2017.
